The star has now revealed that Davina sent a heartfelt video message after her announcement, telling Grazia: "The Queen herself has given me her blessing.
"She sent me an amazing video when I got the gig saying 'you are going to smash it'."
Davina was host of Big Brother during its Channel 4 days until 2010, with Brian Dowling and later Emma Willis taking over during its Channel 5 run.
"She's a very dear friend of mine and I did champion her from the beginning because I love her and I think she's going to do a phenomenal job. And I, for one, am really bloody looking forward to a new era with her – and Will Best, we cannot forget Will Best."
AJ previously said of joining the show: "I’m so excited to finally be able to say that, yes: I’m hosting Big Brother! I couldn't be happier.
"Following in the footsteps of some of my favourite broadcasting legends to front such an iconic show is an absolute honour – and to do it alongside my amazing friend Will is the icing on the cake."
Big Brother will air on ITV2 this autumn.
