Fashion designer q&a

Three of the hottest Aussie fashion designers - Charlie Brown, Camilla Franks and Peter Morrissey - take on a makeover challenge to transform an everyday bedroom, loungeroom and backyard.

PETER MORRISSEY

What do you love about where you live?
I think Darlinghurst (a Sydney suburb) is very eclectic with its mixture of people and resturants - city people, Italians at Bill & Toni's, gym people from City Gym, Miss Chu on Bourke Street with its cool street customer mix - it's always a happening area and walking distance to Sydney Harbour, the city and Paddington.

Is there anything you would like to change about your own home or garden?
I would love a back yard with a pool and a vegie patch - so should look to move to a house in the area I suppose?

How do you rate yourself as a cook, a decorator, in the garden or at DIY?
Cook - 7/10 - love fresh food, simple and healthy
Decorator - 9/10 - the designer in me makes the decorator
Garden - 7/10 - damn good at making orchids flower every year - something I am very proud of
DIY - still at school, yet to be scored!

CAMILLA FRANKS

What do you love about where you live?
I recently moved near to Five Ways Paddington (in Sydney). I love the area's cosmopolitan atmosphere, quirky cafes, wine bars and buzzing energy. I also love my garden. It's my own private little oasis - sheltered with banana palms, birds of paradise plants, fairy lights, mirrors and outdoor furniture and antiques help create the perfect sanctuary.

Is there anything you would like to change about your own home or garden?
I’ve been too busy to give my house and garden the love and attention it deserves. For the moment, I have placed objects and furnishings where they fit. It kind of looks like world war three so I would to like to get a professional interior decorator to style each room.

How do you rate yourself as a cook, a decorator, in the garden or at DIY?
I love cooking, especially on Sundays as this is my way of relaxing. My decorating style is eclectic and comfortable but a little different. I am useless in the garden – my poor herb garden is dead again and Mr. Rosemary is the only one to survive.

Any plans for a Camilla Franks line for the home?
Absolutely. I have always wanted to diversity into homewares and we are in the process of product development for furniture, lamps, candles, wine glasses, umbrellas and towels. I am really excited to sink my teeth into this area. My brand isn’t just about fashion; it’s about a luxurious, playful lifestyle and everything that goes with it!
