Step 1

Enlarge Dinosaur Bookcase Components Diagrams and mark out on plywood. Also, mark on set-out lines (shown as broken lines) and eye from Item D Diagram onto body (D). Cut out shapes with a jigsaw fitted with a scroll blade and label each, so they’re easily located at the assembly stage. Mark, but do not cut out, the bottom notch on front leg (E) and back leg (F) at this stage.

Step 2

Drill a hole at each corner of eye shape in body (D). Insert jigsaw and cut out shape to create eye hole.

Step 3

Mark a 20° angle on upper horn (B), along short edge that meets frill (A). Clamp upper horn to workbench and cut angle with a jigsaw. Sand edges lightly to give a smooth finish.

Step 4

Position upper horn and nose horn (C) on frill, using set-out lines on the body as a guide. Predrill, then glue and drive in 2 evenly spaced screws for both upper and nose horn to create horn assembly. The upper horn requires screws to be driven in at a matching angle. Keep a damp cloth handy so you can wipe away any runs of glue.

Step 7

Repeat Step 6 and drive in 3 screws to affix top shelf (H) and 5 screws into middle shelf (I). Also predrill and drive a screw through frill into middle shelf.

Step 8

Cut lower 12mm-wide notch to 30mm deep, to create front leg (E). Position front leg on set-out lines on body and into notches on middle and bottom shelves. Apply glue at all connections, tapping into position with a scrap of wood between hammer and component. Predrill and drive 1 screw where front leg connects at body and at bottom shelf.

Step 9

Cut lower 12mm-wide notch to 45mm-deep, to create back leg (F). Position back leg on set-out lines on body and into notches on middle and bottom shelves. Affix as in Step 8.
