Congratulations! You’ve decided to upgrade your TV. A 4K TV has never been bigger, sharper and more inexpensive than now — even from top name brands like Sony, Samsung, LG, Vizio and LG.
If you’re looking for the 4K TV of your dreams, you need to know when to buy. If you don’t get your timing right, you might miss out on deep discounts.
When is the best time to buy a new TV?
Retailers will often slash the price of TVs after newer models hit the market in March and April. So keep an eye out for new releases — a telltale sign that discounts on last year’s models are coming soon.
Father’s Day in June and back-to-school deals in August usually see a drop in TV prices, too. Any dad would prefer a new flatscreen to a tie, and students going off to college need new TVs for dorm rooms and apartments.
Other great times to buy
January, November and December are great months to pick out a new TV. Retailers like Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy and Target are known to drop prices left and right, hoping to get your business at the beginning and end of the year.
January is the perfect time to use up all those gift cards you got for the holidays. Plus, there’s no better time to snag a deeply discounted 'open box' 4K model that might have been returned after the festivities have ended. Last-minute gift shoppers can also see markdowns on TVs all through December in the lead-up to Christmas Eve.
Retailers know that the run-up to Super Bowl Sunday finds NFL fans clamoring for stellar TV deals. Look out for amazing sales a few weeks before the Big Game.
Of course, Black Friday and Cyber Monday are key for picking up a new TV for a remarkably low price. Just keep in mind: Those deals are usually super short-lived — sometimes they're on for just a few hours — and sell out quickly.
Where to look for the best TV deals
Bargain hunter? Retailers like Amazon, Walmart and Best Buy are a fantastic starting point for finding incredible deals on 4K TVs. Walmart and Best Buy even have a price matching policy, if you find a lower price on the same product at another store.

The best TV deals right now
Is it time to upgrade? We say yes, as the markdowns lately are unbeatable. Case in point: This JVC 70-inch Class 4K Ultra HD Roku Smart TV (LT-70MAW795) — which is on sale for $548, or $352 at Walmart — has a massive 70-inch LED display, which is the ideal size for watching all of your favorite movies and shows. You’ll feel like you’re in the middle of all the action, thanks to this TV’s 4K Ultra HD resolution. Some shoppers say this 4K TV is just as good if not better than Samsung and LG TVs.
"We are so pleasantly surprised with this TV!" raved a five-star reviewer. "We needed something bigger for the playroom and didn't want to break the bank like we did with our other TVs. ... Decided to give this one a try and it's amazing. The picture quality is top-notch in my opinion and looks no different than my LG or Samsung TVs. The part where it outshines my expensive TVs is the sound, it's incredible! Nice volume and steady sound. Super impressed and would buy this again and recommend it to anyone who is on the fence. Great job, JVC!"
This JVC model also comes with the Roku platform built-in, so you can stream a motherlode of movies and TV shows. In fact, Roku has access to more than 500,000 streaming channels, which is the most channels available from any streaming platform — even Google Chromecast, Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV. You'll have instant access to popular streamers, including Hulu, Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, Peacock, Paramount+, Discovery+, Prime Video and much more — all just one button away.
