Gunners Barracks, Sydney

On a private headland in Sydney’s north is the historic Gunners Barracks. The heritage building was built entirely of sandstone in 1873 and housed artillery men, but today is the venue for kitchen teas, weddings and lovely long lunches. The sandwich offering at the Gunners Barracks is extensive, with wagyu beef, crab and salmon all on the lineup. The menu is friendly for expecting mums too, with lots of veggie options, and the fluffy egg mayo (a high tea classic) isn’t made with raw egg, making the afternoon tea perfect for a baby shower. The standout treat? The hot pink macarons with sea salt, rosemary and thyme. Photo: Instagram/Gunners Barracks.
