Bella Thorne sports inches of armpit hair on the red carpet

Bella Thorne showed off her armpit hair on the red carpet this week.

Wearing a baggy white vest top and green velvet flares to promote her new film I Still See You, she proudly displayed a generous amount of underarm fuzz.

Armpit hair has long been the subject of a gender double standard, with some arguing women should never, ever grow theirs out.

However, attitudes have changed over time. In 2013, a survey conducted by The Telegraph found some 95 per cent of 18-24 year olds shaved their armpits.

Fast forward to 2016, and it was a different story, with 23 per cent opting to leave their armpits au natural.

Bella, who is known for her pioneering fashion choices, is tapping into an increasingly open-minded approach to body hair.

And this isn’t the first time she’s celebrated her armpit hair. Back in September, body confident Bella posted a bikini shot on her Instagram account @bellathorne – which has 18.1 million followers.

The post, which received over 720,000 likes, showed off the star’s toned body, complete with dark underarm hair.

While the look received mixed reviews – with some followers calling on the actress to shave – Bella’s reappearance on the red carpet in a sleeveless top shows just how confident she is with her body hair choice.

We totally applaud this – women should be free to do whatever they want with their bodies, and it’s promising to see confident millennials like Bella doing their thing.

Bella’s not the only millennial jumping on the armpit hair bandwagon. Gigi Hadid hit headlines last year when she starred in Love magazine’s advent calendar showing off unshaven armpits.

Miley Cyrus and Madonna are just a few more celebrities who have flaunted their armpit hair in recent years.
