Bella Hadid responds to resurfaced 'Vogue' interview after TikTok calls her 'detached from reality': 'It sounded pathetic'

Model Bella Hadid is getting some unfavorable reactions from people on TikTok after a snippet of her August interview with Vogue was posted on the platform.

Def Noodles, an influencer drama channel that used to be based on Twitter until they got banned, uploaded the clip to their 27,000 followers in early November. The original footage is from the Vogue YouTube channel, where Hadid reflected on 15 of her looks from 2015 until now.

One of the most recent looks — an outfit she wore in Cannes in early 2021 — inspired Hadid to share a story about her upbringing that TikTok users are calling “detached from reality.”

“I never, growing up, had anything designer,” Hadid said in the interview. “My mom wouldn’t let me. I think I got my first pair of Louboutins when I graduated high school. It makes me emotional, actually, because I’m so happy in this picture.”

Hadid’s mom, Yolanda from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, has an estimated net worth of $45 million. Hadid’s father, Mohamed, a luxury real estate developer, has an estimated net worth between $100 to $200 million. According to CNBC, Hadid and her sister Gigi grew up in an $85 million custom-built mansion.

Louboutins start at $695, and the most expensive pair is nearly $6,000.

This isn’t the first time Hadid has told this story — Hadid gave an interview to Elle in 2017 and described her skill for shopping “on a budget.”

“I know all the secrets for how to shop for good stuff on a budget because I didn’t buy anything designer until I turned 18,” she said. “When I was 18, I finally let myself buy a designer piece. I bought a pair of Louboutins because that’s what you do when you’re 18.”

Commenters on the Def Noodles post were unimpressed, to say the least.

“I feel her pain,” one noted sarcastically. “I’m actually going on year 31 of no designer clothing.”

“These celebrities really need to touch base with reality,” another said. “They’re so out of it. It’s frightening how they think they really struggled.”

Hadid actually commented on the TikTok video as well, hoping to further explain what she meant.

“The context of this was that a lot of people think I grew up buying and wearing designer things,” she said in a comment. “I never take anything I’ve ever had for granted, and I feel undeserving of it at all times. But I wore this same pair of shoes that were given to me as a gift for the first three years of my career to every job, every go-see or meeting. The metal is all that’s left at the bottom of the heel. I’m sorry it sounded pathetic, but 1. Bad story to tell and 2. I agree, I can’t listen to myself talk either.”
