After Being Called Out For Getting Super Close To Her Guests, Drew Barrymore Said She’s "So Touchy" Because She Lacks "Physical Connection" As A Single Woman

By now, we all know that Drew Barrymore loves getting close to guests on her self-titled talk show.

From Oprah Winfrey to Martha Stewart, Drew has famously locked hands with and stroked the arms of many celeb guests while engaged in conversation.

Drew’s love of physical touch has sparked a heap of online discourse — to the point that she addressed the buzz back in August.

“Do you know how hard the pandemic was for me? I was alone in a studio by myself. I like to be around people! It's not everyone's favorite, but I'm sorry to those people,” she said, adding that she’d be “practicing physical distance” going forward.

Now, Drew has opened up a bit further about why she’s so touchy with her guests.

During a raw conversation with Cynthia Erivo this week, Drew noted that she lacks “physical connection” as a single woman.

"I'm so touchy," she began before quipping, "People have to warn me, they're like, 'Back off a little bit.' And I'm like, 'Why?'"

“I’m single, I’m not dating anyone. I don’t have that in my life,” she said before adding, “I don’t know how I would ever hold back from holding hands, hugging, snuggling.”

Drew has been married three times in the past. Since her divorce from Will Kopelman in 2016, she's remained super private with her love life, though she revealed in 2022 that she was hesitant about dating.

“I have two young girls and, like, I don’t want to bring people home,” she said on CBS Mornings. “I think it would take me a very long time to meet someone and get to know them before I could even ever introduce them to my daughters.”

Drew's daughters, Olive and Frankie, are now 12 and 10.

Cynthia — who has gone viral on numerous occasions lately for her physical touch with Ariana Grande amid the Wicked press tour — then offered Drew some words of comfort.

“I think we get a bit afraid of physical connection,” Cynthia said. “I think we assume that physical connection can only be romantic.”

Drew enthusiastically agreed, “Yes, that’s my point! You’re saying it so much better than I did,” before admitting that she’s actually “far more timid” when it comes to being physically affectionate in romantic relationships than in friendships.

Cynthia continued, “Sometimes you can't say anything, and you're in a room and...it's just a squeeze of the hand. And that's sometimes how [Ariana] and I communicate.”

“We might be talking to someone, or I might need to communicate something to her, and it's just a squeeze of the hand or just a pinch of a finger,” she said, poking fun at their viral “Holding Space” meme from the Wicked press tour.

“However we need to communicate, it's how we need to communicate. And I think we don't give enough credit to how we communicate with our friends physically,” Cynthia said.

Drew added, “I think if we could all be more comfortable with physical touch, I would like that world.”

I know that physical affection isn’t for everyone, but I think it’s safe to say that this is super wholesome. LMK your thoughts down below!
