A US plus-size fashion blogger has debunked the idea that anyone without a model figure who posts a bathing suit picture is ‘brave’.

Jessica Kane, founder of Skorch Magazine and Life and Style of Jessica blog, posted a picture of herself in a swimsuit to facebook with the caption ‘THIS WAS NOT BRAVE’.

She continued her post with the following:
“I've been told how brave I am for not having a cover-up, but going with out a wrap would only take bravery if I cared what others thought of me, but I don't. I spend my time worrying about things I CAN control and this day, I was only thinking about how fab I felt and how much sun I was catching. Things that DO take bravery? A family battling tragic illness, a mother trying to beat addiction, a person trying to break free of domestic violence, reaching out for help when you have already planned your suicide and feel like you can't breath one more day. THAT is brave. Not wearing a swimsuit at the beach. LIVE life and only worry about what really matters.”

The post, which clearly has struck a chord with many women, has so far racked up more than a whopping 500, 000 likes and almost 50,000 shares.

The size 28 blonde's message comes as a number online campaigns have surfaced encouraging women of all shapes and sizes to be proud of their bodies.

However, Kane’s statement is a powerful one that wants to invert the notion that a woman who isn’t blessed with tiny proportions is somewhat being gutsy by having the confidence to display their body in public.

“What if we let the critics in our head win?? What if you turn down that pool party invite?? Your happiness will suffer in exchange to make someone else more comfortable with THEIR own issues,” Kane wrote in a follow-up blog post.

“Eff the critics babygirl, and eff anyone else's version of beauty if it forces you to deny embracing moments like these.. live your life NOW.”
