The 31-year-old actress developed a love for beauty as a toddler after she raided her mother's dressing table and applied a mixture of colourful products over her face.

She explained: "My earliest memory of beauty is from when I was three years old and put on all of my mother's make-up.

"I remember thinking I had done a fantastic job, when in reality I'd used every single product and applied all of them on top of each other - all over my face.

"My mother would wear dark-red lipstick and a lot of eyeshadow - and it was the '80s, so it was all super- colourful. There were various eyeshadow palettes, which I had mixed up all over my face because I had no concept of what should go where.

"She would try to hide everything from me but I kept finding it and doing it again. I was a good hustler."

However, the flame-haired beauty, who is married to Mark Ronson, believes her passion for makeup has dissolved over the years because she now prefers the natural look.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph newspaper, she said: "I probably had more of an interest then than I do now, because nowadays I wear the same thing all the time.

"Day-to-day, I don't wear anything on my skin and just use eyeliner or a red lipstick.

"I don't know whether that's out of laziness or a lack of imagination, but I leave it to other people when I'm on a shoot to explore more and to be more exciting."
