Could Your Make-Up Be Making You Sick?

Did you know that germs love make-up bags?

Well turns out the pesky bugs also take great pleasure in taking up residence on your favourite lipsticks, blushers and make-up brushes, which means not only are they full of germs, but they're leaving you in risk of picking up the dreaded flu.

So here are a few ways you can keep the germs at bay this summer.

Clean your make-up bag regularly

Keep your make-up bag in tip-top shape and you'll have no need to worry about catching anything from your beloved products. Make-up artist Janis Marino recommends using plastic make-up bags as they are easier to clean with disinfectant wipes.

Use this lipstick trick

Scrape off the top layer of your favourite lipstick, then dip it into a small glass of alcohol. Place the uncovered tube in the feezer overnight and it’ll be ready to go by the morning.

Keep your pencils sharpened

For all your pencils, just keep them sharpened and make sure you’re cleaning your make-up brushes as much as possible, at least several times a month, if not after every use.

Sharing is not caring

When it comes to sharing your beauty products - don't do it. This is one of the fastest way germs are spread, especially with lipsticks and lip glosses.

Never mix your brushes

Keep each brush separate and use for it's intended use. Your lipstick bush is only for your lips and don't even think about using your eyeshadow brush for your cheeks. You should also be washing your make-up brushes at least once a month, if not after every use.

Replace your mascara

Be vigilant with replacing your mascara every three-six months. We all know mascara is one of the main culprits when it comes to picking up germs.

Wash your hands

It may seem like an obvious one, but washing your hands immediately before applying your make-up can avoid a lot of complications when it comes to germs invading your make-up case.
