It’s the Australian breakfast TV show that has enjoyed ratings success this year, while Channel Nine rival, Today, has experienced a panel shakeup.
But now Channel Seven’s Sunrise will farewell one of its beloved cast members.
Basil Zempilas is reportedly ‘scaling back’ his commitments at the network, by stepping down from his role as Weekend Sunrise host.
The 48-year-old has been hosting the brekkie show on Saturday and Sunday alongside Monique Wright since early 2018 when Andrew O’Keefe left.
While Channel Seven is yet to officially comment, Basil seemed to acknowledge the news on Twitter over the weekend.
When former Studio 10 producer Rob McKnight said “I actually liked him” in response to a tweet that Basil was leaving, the TV presenter himself responded, “Me too”.

According to TV Tonight, Basil will remain with Channel Seven and continue his sports presenting duties in Perth, and will be part of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics reporting team.
Channel Seven, which has been contacted for comment, has not spoken of a replacement host as of yet.
The daily Sunrise show during the week features hosts Samantha Armytage and David ‘Kochie’ Koch joined by Natalie Barr, Mark Beretta and Edwina Bartholomew.
