Barry Keoghan Says He's 'Proud' of Sabrina Carpenter for Grammy Nominations: 'I've Got to Get on the Phone Soon'

The 'Espresso' singer received her first-ever nominations — six total — the Recording Academy announced on Nov. 8

Sabrina Carpenter is now a Grammy-nominated artist — and her boyfriend couldn’t be happier!

After the Recording Academy announced its picks for the 2025 awards show on the morning of Friday, Nov. 8, Barry Keoghan expressed how “proud” he is of his musician girlfriend, 25, while appearing on The Jess Cagle Show.

Reacting to Carpenter’s six nominations — including a song of the year nod for "Please Please Please,” for which Keoghan starred in the music video — the Irish actor, 32, said, “Brilliant, I know. Absolutely brilliant. Feckin’ brilliant, lads.”

“No, I’m really, really happy for her, honestly, and I got to get on the phone soon,” he continued on the SiriusXM show, before teasing the hosts for putting him “on the spot.”

After the hosts joked he probably knew the track was headed for the Grammys while working on the video, he said, “Yes, definite, definite.”

“But no, I'm really, really … I don't know anyone who works as hard. I'm in awe watching her work and how committed and the standards that she sets,” Keoghan added. “Especially being on that music video, just, she knows the vision. She knows what she wants.”

The Saltburn star — who first sparked dating rumors with the “Espresso” singer in late 2023 — also shared a sweet message about the career milestone on Carpenter’s own post reacting to the news.

After the 2025 Grammy nominations were announced on Nov. 8, the pop star shared a video on Instagram revealing her live (and tearful) reaction in her tour bus.

As the announcement for best pop solo performance nominees kicked off with Beyoncé and Carpenter, the musician and her friends screamed and clapped. “Beyoncé and Sabrina Carpenter!” she yelled, seemingly in shock.

Elsewhere in the reaction clips, Carpenter said, “I don’t know how that’s possible,” and cried as her friends hugged her.

“Us on the tour bus this morning take a shot every time we scream like fr headphone warning,” the singer captioned the emotional post. “This is the first year I’ve watched the live stream where I heard my name! I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t dreamt about this day my whole life so I am filled with gratitude - Thank you @recordingacademy :’)).”

In the comments, Keoghan was quick to give props, writing, “🥹💕🥇.”

Also praising the “Coincidence” singer were stars including Gracie Abrams, Maggie Rogers and Zooey Deschanel. The Recording Academy also responded in the comments, writing, “Congratulations! ✨.”

Including her song of the year nod for "Please Please Please,” Carpenter’s Grammy nominations totaled six. She was nominated for best new artist, while her album Short n' Sweet earned nominations for both best pop vocal album and album of the year.

Her viral song “Espresso" rounded out the list with two nods: best pop solo performance and the coveted record of the year award.
