It might be one of the wettest days of the year, but that’s not going to stop us from dropping into our local Aldi to get our hands on this $7 item everyone’s going wild for.

In fact, the supermarket giant’s plastic containers are being dubbed the ultimate staple, with bargain-hunters claiming they’re perfect for freezing your winter warming meals.

The Crofton containers, which are available in a pack of three, were posted to the Aldi Lovers Australia Instagram page yesterday, with Tammy, the owner of the page, receiving 1,356 likes on the snap.

“Spotted these freezer containers today and they would also be awesome for meal prepping. They each have a section on the lid you can write on with a pencil and wipe off,” she wrote.

Since then, the post has received numerous comments from people saying they’re fans of the product.

“I have the blue set and love them! They seal really well and stack easily in the freezer,” one person said.

“I’ve got the blue ones and I find that they freeze really well. I’ve only had them in the microwave on the defrost setting. I hand wash them too (but that only because I don’t have a dishwasher),” another commented said.

Another bargain

Meanwhile for the same price, Bunnings has a range of 17 food containers perfect for storage or school lunches.

“Not a markdown but an amazing find at an incredible price I could not wait to share,” one mum wrote, posting some photos of the containers to Facebook last month.

“Seventeen storage containers for $6.98 at Bunnings. That works out to be roughly 40c per container.”

Plenty of people also shared how they were able to organise their entire pantry using the containers, while on the other end of the spectrum, some warned against the use of cheap plastics that might not last all that long.

“After you open the container about 15 to 20 times, the seal is gone,” was one comment.

“Are these the ones where the lids split at the corners when you're pressing them on,” another person wrote.

Aldi’s viral pot

Another item posted to Tammy’s page has also gone off, with shoppers rushing out to get the Crofton Chef’s Collection $24.99 Cast Iron French Pan and $22.99 Cast Iron Dutch Oven.

“I got the entire set l last time Aldi did this. I can highly recommend these as being just as good as their equivalent counter brands that cost several times more,” one commenter said.

The pans are so popular in fact that the post has been inundated with comments from people asking where they’re still available around Australia.

They were part of their Winter Cooking Special Buys range last week, and are a much cheaper version of Le Creuset’s $349 16cm saucepan.
