Bachelorette star responds to rumours they’re returning this season

It’s a season like no other starring both male and female contestants for the very first time, and it turns out the drama is only just getting started on The Bachelorette this year.

Despite being eliminated on Thursday night as part of a ‘mass exodus’ when four intruders crashed the mansion, Matt Pottier’s time on the reality show might not be over just yet.

According to reality TV podcast So Dramatic!, Matt is rumoured to be making a return to the mansion later on this season to warn Brooke about some of the contestants he believes aren’t genuine.

The 31-year-old recently spoke with Yahoo Lifestyle about the reports and hinted that there might be some truth to them.

“Look, there’s always rumours going around,” he began.

“I did make a comment when I left about feeling like people weren’t there for the right reasons. But Brooke’s smart enough to sus it out herself really and I’ll stand by that. I believe she’ll work it out herself.

“Hopefully she can see who’s there for her and who’s not really there to make a connection with her. I'm standing by Brooke, fingers crossed she makes the right decision.”

While he acknowledges that there will always be people who go on reality TV for the ‘wrong reasons’, Matt believes that this year’s contestants have each been given an accurate portrayal so far.

“There’s only so much they can do to make you look bad, so I think everyone is coming out as they are,” he remarks. “I don’t think they’re showing anyone in a bad light.”

Opening up about his time on the show, Matt says he was shown on TV exactly as he is in real life - “a very awkward person”.

“I probably could have opened up a lot more but nerves kicked in all the time and I think just the whole environment sort of got to me a bit,” he reflects.

“Probably something I was most upset about was I needed that full rap to come out,” he adds with a laugh, referencing his red carpet moment that was cut short. “It was a good rap, hopefully one day everyone gets to see the full thing.”

The metal fabricator, who was initially cast on Elly and Becky Miles’ season last year before he was cut at the last minute, also says he knew it was going to be tough competing against both men and women for Brooke’s heart.

“It was always going to be hard coming in with women as well, but everyone was awesome. I couldn't fault anyone,” he admits.

“I thought there were going to be personalities that you clash with but everyone was so nice and no one wanted to step on anyone's toes.”

Although he confesses that he found the other girls attractive, he never considered pursuing a relationship with anyone else besides Brooke.

“I did click with other women but that was just on a friendship sort of level,” he says.

“Majority of everyone there just knew we were there for Brooke and wanted the best for Brooke. She just has this energy about her and when you meet her it's just amazing.”
