Bachelor star and new mum Emily Ghougassian (née Simms) has taken to Instagram to publicly call out an “evil troll” for branding her “selfish” and suggesting that her daughter’s premature birth was “karma.”

The negative comments come after Emily, 36, and her husband Pierre welcomed their first child, a baby girl named Laila, seven weeks early on July 3.

The makeup artist - who suffered severe pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome during her pregnancy - spent three days in hospital after being rushed to a critical care unit immediately after delivery, while Laila also spent time in the ICU.

Mum-shamed

The proud mama has made sure to keep her social media followers up to speed on her and her daughter’s progress, as she did on Wednesday when she shared a two-week update.

Emily gushed about her little one’s chubby cheeks in her Instagram Story before remarking on her weight loss.

“The 22 kilograms I gained during pregnancy (most of which was fluid due to problems I had) I've already lost 17.5 kg of,” she wrote.

“I'm guessing I'll end up weighing less than my pre-pregnancy, as I have lost almost all of my muscle tone,” she mused.

That’s when a fellow Instagram user sent Emily a private message chastising her for being too focused on herself.

“It doesn't matter about your weight! Worry about your child first. To be honest you’re being selfish and should not even care about yourself gaining weight,” the woman wrote.

“During your pregnancy you were too concerned about yourself and not the child you were carrying therefore you got karma and your poor child had to suffer,” she added.

Emily claps back

The ex-Bachelor star - she appeared on Sam Wood’s season - shared a screenshot of the woman’s message along with the hashtags “#onlinetroll,” and “#callingitout.”

“You are a disgrace to say those words to another human,” Emily began.

“I am not concerned about my weight, I am more shocked by how amazing the human body is, and how many kegs of fluid I have peed out in only two weeks,” she continued.

“To say to a stranger that the horrific few weeks I've endured is ‘karma’, when all I've done is try to take care of myself and my baby from conception is just pure evil in my book!” she added.

Emily, who tied the knot with her real estate agent beau in 2018, went on to point out that paying attention to her body may have saved her and her daughter’s lives.

“One of the symptoms of pre-eclampsia is swelling. If I wasn’t so in tune with my body [...] I may not have called the hospital back last month and Laila and I may not be the position we are today,” she wrote.

Her ‘horrific few weeks’

In an Instagram post shared hours after their baby girl’s birth - which Emily later revealed to be an emergency caesarean - it was revealed that the new mum was suffering with “severe pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome”.

Despite weighing just over 2kg, newborn Laila was reportedly “doing well” and had been moved out of ICU and into a special care nursery.

A day before she gave birth, Emily told her Instagram followers that she was admitted to hospital on June 28 after “feeling like death.”

Her illnesses prevented her from attending her own baby shower - which her hubby went to instead of her.

Emily was later discharged from hospital on July 9 but admitted that she was still feeling “pretty crappy.”

Laila is still in hospital and “will be for a little while yet [as] she’s not strong enough and still too little,” Emily explained on Instagram on Tuesday.
