We watched her hopes and dreams get shattered as Matt Agnew told Abbie Chatfield he was in love with another woman. This was despite the fact that, by Abbie’s account, they had been as affectionate as ever as late as 11pm the evening before.
But it seems the bubbly 24-year-old has well and truly moved on from the astrophysicist after she was seen on a date with someone who knows exactly what it’s like to be dumped on a reality TV finale.
Todd King, the runner-up on Ali Oetjen's season of the Bachelorette, was photographed hugging and kissing Abbie on a date on Noosa Beach in Queensland recently.
Looking like a happy couple, they were seen going for a dip in the waves and enjoying the sun on the sand.
The snaps come after the pair were spotted flirting on Instagram, after Todd commented on Abbie’s post about being slut-shamed after appearing on The Bachelor.
“Absolutely living for this! I can't stand the double standards. Well said, Abbie,” Todd commented.
“Send me a date card already, you feminist icon,” Abbie replied.
In the post, Abbie went into detail about the hate she’s received since her time in the mansion, saying, “Things I got slut-shamed for on #thebachelorau: this bikini, my skort at hometowns, multiple cocktail party gowns, kissing matt 'without a date' and at a cocktail party (out of sight of anyone), pashing Matt in various locations with varying degrees of intensity, honestly admitting that I wanted to have sex with a man I was dating for 10 weeks and all around just ‘using sexuality to manipulate Matt’”.
More recently, Abbie opened up about another upsetting experience on The Bachelor when she was asked by a producer about her family plans.
It was during the all-stars episode which featured previous winners Laura Byrne and Snezana Wood, who were both pregnant at the time, and as Abbie explained on the Shameless podcast, she burst into tears after the producer suggested it would “be nice [for her] to be pregnant with someone [she] loves”.
“Because I had an abortion last year, I just started sobbing,” she told the podcast of her response.
“I'm so sick of having to justify why I haven't been screaming from the rooftops, ‘I want kids’. At that time, I felt very guilty for saying that I wanted kids because I had aborted one in March last year.”
