Ant Anstead Will Appear on The Flip Off with Ex Christina Haack After She Joked He Could Replace Josh Hall: Source

The HGTV star teased in July that having her second husband replace her estranged third would be "genius" for ratings

Ant Anstead is set to make an appearance alongside ex Christina Haack (formerly Hall) on her upcoming show The Flip Off, a source tells PEOPLE.

"Ant is going to appear on the show, but he won't be Christina's partner,” the source said. Christina had previously joked about her second husband joining the show, telling a fan in her Instagram comments it would be "genius" to include him, before later clarifying she "can't work with anymore exes."

The Flip Off, which is slated to premiere in early 2025, also stars Christina’s first husband Tarek El Moussa and his current wife Heather Rae El Moussa. Her estranged third husband, Josh Hall, was set to be her partner on the home competition series, before their unexpected split in July.

Christina has since returned to filming without Josh, a source previously confirmed to PEOPLE, but the status of his involvement in the series, if any, is unclear.

Anstead's exact role on the show has yet to be confirmed. PEOPLE reached out to HGTV, but did not immediately receive a reply.

Christina first sparked rumors of Anstead's involvement over the summer.

“How awesome would it be to have Ant replace Josh on The Flip Off? Ratings would go through the roof. If it happens, I need some credit. Lol,” an Instagram commenter wrote on a post shared by Christina on Instagram back in July.

In response, Christina agreed, “LOL that would be a genius 'ratings' idea just sayin.”

However, she later shut down the idea while speaking to Backgrid, saying, “It would be good for ratings, but I can’t work with any more exes. I already work with Tarek.”

Fans monitoring the designer's social media activity may not be surprised by Christina’s change of heart, however, as she and Anstead, who share 5-year-old son Hudson, have recently been engaging in a number of friendly exchanges.

Christina even re-followed her ex on Instagram and later explained to Backgrid: “Ant and I share Hudson... and I feel like he deserves to have us get along.”

The gesture was a turning point in their relationship post divorce, which involved a heated custody battle over their son. Anstead appears to have also followed Christina back on Instagram as of Oct. 19.

Christina's evolving relationship with Anstead comes in the midst of her ongoing split from Josh, who filed for divorce on July 15 after nearly three years of marriage. The formerly Austin-based real estate professional cited "irreconcilable differences" and requested spousal support from Christina. The HGTV star responded with her own legal filing on July 24, which asked that neither be allowed to ask for spousal support.

Josh later made a rare public statement denying that he requested $65,000 in spousal support from Christina.

Christina has been spotted filming The Flip Off without Josh on multiple occasions since July, however HGTV has yet to confirm if Josh will still make any appearances on the show.

The highly-anticipated series will mark the first time Christina and Tarek will be on a show together since Flip or Flop ended in 2022 after ten seasons.

The pair were married for seven years until 2016, and they share daughter Taylor, 14, and son Brayden, 9. They continued to film their hit series together for several seasons post-divorce. Tarek and Heather also welcomed their son Tristan in 2023.
