Andy Lee names surprise celeb as 'least favourite' radio guest: 'A brat'

He was one-half of the country's best-known radio duo for a decade, and now Andy Lee has lifted the lid on his least favourite celebrity guest from his time on the airwaves.

Andy, who hosted the Hamish & Andy show on the Hit Network with Hamish Blake, said pop star Justin Bieber was a 'brat' when he visited in 2015.

The comedian made the admission in a frank chat with Nova's Fitzy & Wippa on Tuesday, saying that Justin, who would've been 21 at the time, wasn't on his best behaviour that day.

"He rocks up late, during the interview he started eating a sandwich," Andy, 40, said.

"And I said, 'Would you like to stop for a second and finish your sandwich and we can keep going?' He's like, 'No,'" he added.

Andy went on to recall the in-studio table tennis competition they held at the request of the "Baby" singer's management. Neither Andy nor Hamish knew how to play so they recruited Hamish's dad to go head-to-head with Justin.

"[Justin] took the game really seriously," Andy said with a laugh. "He swore at Hamish’s dad which we edited out."

But it didn't end there. After the table tennis game — which Justin won — he performed on the rooftop for a group of extremely excited young fans.

Andy remembered the moment that the heartthrob brought the performance to an abrupt halt to demand the Bieber-mad crowd stop singing along.

"[The crowd was] singing along with the song and he goes, 'Stop, stop, stop, stop. No one came here to hear you. If I came here with my full band, that'd be fine. But it's just me acoustic. I'm trying to do something real. No one came here to hear you. We'll start again'."

According to Andy, Bieber's outburst never went to air as his record company reps asked for it to be cut out of the final recording.

"It felt like a day of just cutting out his bad habits," Andy laughed.

He finished up by saying that, in Justin's defense, his attitude is likely 'very different' these days as he approaches 30.

"I couldn't imagine being a child star and not knowing any different," Andy said.

Meanwhile, Andy has revealed he was almost swayed to join breakfast TV after being approached by Channel Nine in the wake of Karl Stefanovic’s Today show exit in 2019.

While he revealed he'd had some 'chats' about taking on the role, Andy told the I’ve Got News For You podcast that he was put off by the early start time.
