Andrew McCarthy is teaming up with Rob Lowe's youngest son for his latest movie.
On Wednesday, Dec. 11, Entertainment Squad shared the trailer for Grace Point exclusively with PEOPLE. The movie stars John Owen Lowe, 29, as as a teenager named Brandon struggling with addiction. When his father Winston (McCarthy, 62) brings Brandon to a rehab facility in a rural area, the father-son duo are violently accosted — and Winston is wounded — while stopping for gas.
"Brandon captures the incident on his cell phone and is now on the run, all while detoxing," an official synopsis for the movie reads. "With the help of a mysterious stranger (Jim Parrack), Brandon must save his father, while dealing with the trauma of his past."

Grace Point marks just the second film role Lowe, the son of McCarthy's Brat Pack contemporary Rob, has taken in his burgeoning career. He previously appeared in the 2019 movie Holiday in the Wild. He has also starred on the small screen alongside his father in the 2015 sitcom The Grinder and the father-son duo's Netflix series Unstable.
For McCarthy, the film marks his first onscreen role since the release of the documentary Brats, which he directed as an exploration of the Brat Pack's impact on popular culture. Grace Point arrives roughly six months shy of the 40th anniversary of McCarthy and Rob's 1985 classic St. Elmo's Fire.

"Addiction touches and torments so many people beyond the one using," McCarthy said of the movie in a release. "Entire families fall down rabbit holes of despair, but the rabbit hole in Grace Point is one I never saw coming. I think the film will be an emotional rollercoaster for the audience.”
"Any opportunity to shine a light on the struggles of addiction is one I take really seriously," John Owen, who is a producer on the project, said in a statement. "Having my own experiences with addiction and recovery only made it that much more powerful. I’m really grateful for the opportunity and excited for people to watch."
The movie also stars Harlan Drum, Sean Carrigan, Din Thomas, Aljamain Sterling and Chris Weidman; it is directed by Rory Karpf, from a script he wrote with Paul Russell Smith.
Grace Point releases on all digital platforms and has a limited theatrical run on Jan. 28.
