Analysis: Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur

Adam Millington, BBC Sport

Ange Postecoglou will find himself with little to write home about after Saturday’s defeat by Wolves.

Brennan Johnson’s third-minute goal looked like it would ensure positives: Spurs would bounce back from their defeat by Chelsea, they would top the Premier League table once more. That wasn’t how it played out.

Wolves were dominant and had by far the better of the attacking opportunities; it was only their lack of cutting edge which had allowed Tottenham to be unscathed after the 90 minutes had been played. Something was surely going to give.

Spurs failed to use Johnson’s goal to build any sort of momentum and the visitors capitalised. They had 17 attempts on goal – it's little surprise they eventually found the back of the net.

In the end Wolves did. Twice. First it was an individual moment of brilliance from Pablo Sarabia, then it was the turn of Mario Lemina to snatch all three points.

Tottenham managed just two shots on target across the entirety of the match, and there were 85 minutes between those occurring. Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa rarely had to do any work.

Spurs were hoping to make sure their 4-1 defeat on Monday wasn’t a moment which could derail their season after a 10-game unbeaten run was cut short – now they’ll have to wait until after the international break to turn things around.
