Aldi shoppers' warning over affordable summer dupe: 'Snapped after one use'

Aldi shoppers are divided over a popular summer product that retails much cheaper than a brand name, with some saying Aldi's beach cabana is a great summer buy. However, others have warned their fellow customers not to waste their money on the cheaper version.

At some point over the last few years, Cool Cabanas became all the rage at the beach — the easily transportable and buildable shelters are seen dotted along many Aussie shorelines now, and retail at anywhere between $179 - $249. Of course, not everyone wants to throw $200 of hard-earned cash at the shelters, so other brands have started retailing similar styles at cheaper prices.

Kmart is currently selling a similar style cabana for $79 and Bunnings for $65 — and everyone's favourite grocery store Aldi has also jumped on board, stocking their own cabana as part of their Special Buys for $69.

Some Aldi shoppers are loving the summer buy

When one shopper jumped on a Facebook group to ask if anyone had reviews on the Aldi cabana, one person said, "I bought one from Aldi about six years ago and it still works fine, paid $50 for it."

Another fan stepped in saying, "It’s smaller than the Cool Cabana but I love mine that I purchased last year!" while someone else said, "We had the first one released by Aldi six years ago & only just tossed it in the bin. It was great while it lasted."

"Love, love, love! Got the blanket too, (with the hole in the centre, game changer!)" someone else shared. "Effing love mine. It's held up well on windy 90-mile beaches," someone commented on Reddit. "Best Christmas present ever."

But others are warning against the Aldi cabana

However, quite a few people flocked to the comments to share their Aldi cabanas had 'snapped' after just one or two uses.

"We got one last year and it broke after two uses," one person commented. "I got it the other day and it snapped as it’s plastic. They seemed sturdy but not if it's snapped after one use," another shared.

"I'd spend the extra and get a Cool Cabana that will last years. I’ve had mine 8 years already!" someone else said."Ours also broke first use. Get a Cool cabana," another person agreed.

"Ours broke the first time using it! One of the arms broke like 20mins after we set it up. When we returned it they said heaps had been returned but that was last year so maybe they’ve improved them," one unlucky shopper commented. "We still won’t be buying again, ruined our beach day!"
