Aldi has officially been crowned the UK's cheapest supermarket - for the month of September, at least.
Bargain-hunters may want to think tactically about where they buy their groceries, as a monthly report has revealed they could save as much as £9 on a basket of 22 items by shopping at Aldi.
Beating Lidl, which previously stole the top spot, Aldi earned its Best Value badge from Which?.
The consumer group conducted its Cheapest Supermarket price comparison and looked at the cost of a basket of 22 items, including groceries and household essentials.
Results revealed a basket of both branded and unbranded goods cost £24.03 at Aldi and £24.40 at Lidl.
The Which? research also found Aldi was a massive 38% cheaper than Waitrose, the most expensive supermarket for an equivalent basket of items. Here, goods cost £33.06, more than £9 pricier than Aldi for the basket of groceries.
The same shopping also cost 16% more at Sainsbury’s and 18% more at Tesco.
By comparison, Asda’s shopping list come to £26.19 and Sainsbury’s was priced at £27.95.
Morrisons charged £28.31 for the goods, which was the same as Tesco.
Ocado was the second most pricey supermarket at £29.84, just behind Waitrose.

In September, Which? said its shopping list combined branded items such as Andrex toilet paper, Colgate toothpaste and McVitie’s digestive biscuits with own-label products, including mixed peppers and semi-skimmed milk.
While the consumer group acknowledges that own-brand items aren’t exactly the same in different supermarkets, they used experts to ensure that the products were as comparable as possible, based on a range of factors, including weight, quality and other industry data.
Aldi's win follows a nod in The Grocer, where it was also named the UK’s lowest-priced supermarket.
Commenting on the most recent award, Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi, said: “We’re committed to providing our customers with the best prices possible, and we’re immensely proud that we have taken the top spot!
"Being named the UK’s Cheapest Supermarket in September marks our tenth win and we’re dedicated to continuing to make life a little easier for our customers.”
Aldi had the top title in July earlier this year while Lidl was in the number one spot in August.
