'Unacceptable': Aldi forced to apologise over Special Buys failure

Supermarket chain Aldi has been forced to apologise over a major flaw in the delivery of its popular Special Buys program.

Disappointed loyal shoppers were on Tuesday told that long-awaited items in the February Special Buys catalogue would not be available on their specified dates.

The supermarket revealed that dozens of products due in stores nationally on Wednesday and Saturday this week and next week were unlikely to arrive in time due to “shipping delays”.

“We are experiencing shipping delays and are working around the clock to fix it,” the supermarket said.

“We know it is frustrating and we are sorry for any and all inconveniences. These delays mean that the below Special Buys may not be in store on the advertised sale date,” the retailer shared to Facebook.

“We are trying our best to limit these delays and we will make products available in store as soon as possible.”

Hundreds of customers have since expressed they were fed up with Aldi’s excuses for not having Special Buys items in store on time, with many arguing this was far from the first time.

“I love Aldi, but this is not a shipping or Covid excuse. It’s been happening since day one,” an unimpressed shopper wrote to Facebook.

“Why are these excuses still happening Aldi. For a long time it’s been the same old stories. Don’t advertise if you don’t have the product,” another said.

“Been happening since Aldi opened up here in Australia over 20 years ago. Nothing new,” a third wrote.

Aldi directed shoppers to its website where it listed which items would be affected by the delay, however left them hanging by not offering new dates for when the items could be expected.

“I don’t mind in the slightest that they’re delayed, but it would be so great to be able to find out when they do actually arrive,” one customer wrote.

An Aldi employee said confirmed dates for when stock was expected were “unfortunately” unknown, and encouraged customers to frequently check the store’s website “stock checker” for updates.

Among the items delayed were the Lap Tablet Table and Freestanding Vanity for stores in NSW, the Mobile 3 Drawer Unit and Basin Mixer Taps for the ACT, and Lift Top Desk and Office Ball Chair for Victoria.

The Office Cable Organisation and Storage Bookcase would also be delayed for Queensland, as well as the Digital Calipers and Pipe Cleaner, Flexible Drain Cleaner or Drain Suction Pump for South Australia.

The Tap Accessories Assortment and All-in-One LED Qi Charging Lamp would also have their arrival in Western Australian stores delayed.
