Yahoo Lifestyle Aimee Lou Wood had major input over her The White Lotus sex scenes
In amongst a drama heavy episode; a tense surprise reunion between Kate and Victoria at breakfast, Timothy's increasing legal troubles and a literal near-death experience in the hotel shop, The White Lotus just gave us a surprisingly soft and sweet sex scene between Aimee Lou Wood's and Walton Goggins' characters. And now Aimee has revealed the pair worked together to create the moment.
Episode two of the new season of The White Lotus kicks off with Rick (Walton Goggins) and Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood) in a similar position they were at the start of the season. Chelsea signs Rick up for a stress management course with Amrita and he reluctantly goes, and reveals details about his childhood trauma. Chelsea and her new friend Chloe head to the hotel shop where they ended up being held at gun point when an armed robber breaks into the gift shop.
They later have a rather awkward dinner with their older partners and when Chelsea and Rick return to their room Rick tells Chelsea he's heading away for a few days. But before the night is over the couple end up having sex, in a very surprisingly intimate and gentle moment.
Aimee Lou Wood has now revealed she and Walton Goggins worked alongside the series intimacy co-ordinator Miriam Lucia and The White Lotus creator Mike White to make sure everyone was happy and comfortable with the sex scene.
Speaking to Elle, ahead of the series release, Aimee shared her praise for Lucia and other intimacy co-ordinators, saying: "I love intimacy coordinators, and I think they’re absolutely essential."
She continued: "She’s so informed by us. She’s like, ‘You tell me your vision for this scene, and I will make sure that we can execute that in a safe way where everyone’s happy."
As for the surprisingly tender moment between the pair, Aimee revealed the sex scene was intentionally set up this way and they didn't want it to feel "gratuitous".
"We were like, ‘This is what we think should happen. This is why we think it’s important.’ Because we don’t see a lot of tenderness from Rick to Chelsea the rest of the time," she told the publication. "So we have to make sure that when they’re physical and intimate in that way, that you see the love. We don’t want it to be like a fucking gratuitous [sex scene]. We wanted it to be very tender.”
For the first time in her career, Wood also revealed she was able to have control over the final cut of the sex scene. She revealed Lucia invited her to watch the scene, and let herself and White know what she was happy with making the final cut.
"That was the first time that had ever happened, that someone had straight away been like, ‘Come in this room and watch it.’ She’s like, ‘Obviously it’s your body.’ It’s still a big deal. Nudity is still a weird thing," she explained. "She was very much like, ‘Is this okay with you?’ And Mike was very much like, ‘Yes, go and show Aimee that scene, and it will be her that can approve. We can cut away before anything happens.’"
