ACE Eddie Awards Nominations: ‘Oppenheimer’, ‘Barbie’, ‘Anatomy Of A Fall’ & More Vie For Editing Prizes

American Cinemas Editors has cut together the nominees for its 74rd annual ACE Eddie Awards, which will be handed out next month. See the list of all 13 film and TV categories below.

The group also said today that Nina West, who played Divine in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story and Edna Turnblad in the touring production of Hairspray, will host the March 3 ceremony at UCLA’s Royce Hall in Westwood.

Vying for the marquee prize of Best Edited Feature Film (Drama, Theatrical) are the editors behind Anatomy of a Fall, Killers of the Flower Moon, Maestro, Oppenheimer and Past Lives. The Comedy Theatrical race will be among Air, American Fiction, Barbie, The Holdovers and Poor Things.

Since the turn of the 21st century, the Eddie winner for theatrical drama has gone on to score the Academy Award for Best Editing 13 of 23 times — but none of the past four years. In a twist, it was the Eddies’ 2023 comedy winner, Everything Everywhere All at Once, that ended up scooping the Oscar. Top Gun: Maverick took ACE’s top drama prize last year.

Elsewhere today, the ACE race for Best Edited Animated Feature will see Elemental, Nimona, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem battling for the hardware. The Documentary category will feature 20 Days in Mariupol, American Symphony, Joan Baez: I Am a Noise, Little Richard: I Am Everything and Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie.

Among the TV nominees are recent Emmy winners The Bear, Succession, Beef, The Last of Us and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.

John Waters, the quirky and respected writer-director behind Hairspray, Pink Flamingos, A Dirty Shame and others, is set to receive the 2024 ACE Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year Award. The career honor recognizes a filmmaker who exemplifies distinguished achievement in the art and business of film.

Film editors Kate Amend and Walter Murch will receive Career Achievement Awards for their outstanding contributions to film editing, and Stephen Lovejoy will receive the Heritage Award for his unwavering commitment to ACE, which was founded in 1950.

The eligibility period for both film and television categories is the airing or release in theaters in calendar-year 2023. Here are your nominees for the 74th ACE Eddie Awards:
