It's the handyperson's credo: The right tool for the right job. Ah, but what if there's a better tool for the job, something that frees you from cords or muscle strain or gravity? (Yes, gravity — stay with me.) Maybe there's a smarter choice for the ol' toolbox.
I'll admit, I didn't know the following three items even existed until recently. So I thought you should know about them as well, in case you're looking for a gift idea for your favorite fixer. Two of them are on sale for a limited time; the other is just plain cheap.
It's high time the lowly wrench got an upgrade. This battery-powered cordless ratchet can produce 45 foot-pounds of torque by way of its 16.8-volt motor. There are slightly less-expensive power wrenches available (and I'm talking literally a few dollars), but with less muscle. When it comes to torque, you can't have too much.
Dinshare's model is new to Amazon, hence the scant number of reviews, but on paper it looks solid. It comes with eight sockets, two rechargeable batteries, a charger and a carrying case. Oh, and an LED light so you can see what you're doing. (Every tool should have one. I mean, every damn one.)
Clip the on-page 30%-off coupon and you can get the wrench for $63. Finally, no more "wrench arm" from all that twisting.
Where has this been all my life? These wristbands are magnetic, meaning no more dropped screws, nails, drill bits and so on. (Why, universe? Why do they always bounce underneath heavy furniture or land in high-pile carpet? Curse you, gravity!) They also have little pockets to hold non-metal stuff: pencil, wall anchors, wire nuts and whatnot. Genius!
Why a 2-pack? Duh: The vast majority of people have two wrists. For a mere $8 apiece, you can't go wrong.
Jigsaws are great. Jigsaw power cords: not great. They're always in the way, even more so than most power-tool cords. Because jigsaws, almost by design, follow long, twisty, turning paths.
Problem solved: cordless jigsaw. This 20-volt model should saw through most jobs with ease: wood, PVC, even soft metal. It comes with 10 blades, a battery charger and a storage bag to keep everything organized. It normally sells for $74, but right now you can get it for 50% off.
This is a new product, by the way, which is why it has no reviews yet from Newegg customers. And speaking of Newegg, if by some chance you've never heard of the company, rest assured: It's been in business for decades and has a stellar reputation.
