While we wait for Episode 3, here are some of the most interesting details, relatable reactions, and intriguing theories people had about Episode 2. Please try to enjoy each item on the list equally:
1."Don’t punish the baby? I can’t stand Ricken’s friends."
"I love that there's a group of people where even Ricken is like, 'these guys are weirdos.'
Makes it easier to imagine that Ricken was probably less Ricken when Gemma was alive."
"I loved Ricken’s exasperated 'Oh Jesus Christ, Rebeck,' when he thought it was her at the front door.
Even he can get worn down by the fucking weirdos he surrounds himself with."
2."Outie Irving does not trust Milkshake at all."
"Outie Irving is up to some shit. I want to know who he was talking to on the pay phone."
"Irving’s innie got the message????
Burt watching outie Irving???
This episode is so good!!!!"
"I was thinking the message was in all the paperwork Innie Irving went through. The stuff with all the Lumon employee information on it
I personally think the paintings are Outie Irving attempting to gain information on what’s going on at Lumon. I think he doesn’t sleep much on purpose as a way to access his subconscious mind more easily while he paints. Drinks lots of coffee and plays loud music so he doesn’t fall asleep, but his mind is trying to and wanting to go into a dream-like state.
However, the idea that Outie Irving is painting it nonstop and staying up late as a way to push it into his subconscious and give it to Innie Irving is an interesting take, as well. I don’t know what he hopes to accomplish with that, though. How would he expect Innie Irving to know what to do with that information? How would Innie Irving communicate back?
Oh well, fun to think about."
3."Devon covering Mark and Gemma’s photo — that was smart. She knows Milkshake’s up to something."
"So glad Mark did not immediately spill the beans there. Happy that the siblings are so close they understood what information to withhold."
4."'For a period of 39 minutes,' basically the exact length of the S1 finale. Nice detail."
"Dylan really held those switches for 39 minutes? Shout out"
5."Helena makes sure the public knows the medicine that made her sick was non-Lumon, lol."
"Such a perfect PR statement, every single word carefully planned out to put zero blame on the company and all onto her own shoulders."
6."Helena replaying that kiss like she’s never had a true human connection in her life."
"Mark likes Helly, but no one likes Helena 😂."
"Fetid moppet!"
"I am so fucking pumped. I remember so many people saying she’d be a great villain, and she’s really gonna be in on all this, but I’ve been thinking that her experiences are actually changing her. And so many scenes in this episode felt just like that."
7."Anyone notice the water droplet-shaped paving in the middle of the cul-de-sac in Dylan’s neighborhood?"
"I believe they all live in Lumon housing. Irv’s apartment complex area is called Leonora Lake. Mark’s is Baird Creek. All named after previous Eagan CEOs, it seems."
8."Can I just say how much I love the scene between Mark and Devon, theorizing about what Mark meant by 'she's alive,' unraveling a bit like we do here."
"Devon is one of my favorite characters I hope she ends up being the hero of this season. She is such a good sister. She was so fucking smart with Milchick."
9."20% salary bump offer is crazyyyyy. They need him so bad."
"I get the feeling they need him so bad they would give him a 2000% bump if that’s what it took, but that would be suspicious and if 20% does the trick, might as well save some money lol"
10."Absolutely loved the wellness session that Milkshake gave to outie Mark telling him about innie Mark."
"Your innie is funny. Your innie found love."
11."In the first episode of the Severance podcast, Dan Erickson shares that when he moved to LA to work in film, he took the first office job he could find at a door factory, which is where he began writing the show. Loved that he gave a little nod to how it all started!"
12."I really felt bad for Dylan because you could see how precarious his situation is, and innie Dylan imagines his outie is this amazing dad who lives on a river boat with a cool walk-in closet."
"Dylan’s lack of confidence as an outie really broke my heart. Dude, don’t you know you’re really smart and coveted as fuck?"
"Seriously!! When he was like, 'I'd be a pocket door, so I can fold away when I'm not needed,' 😭.
With Mark, Helly, and now Dylan, we see people whose outies are repressed and self-conscious, but their innies are way more spirited and confident. I'd just assumed Dylan was the muscle show baddie he thought he was."
13."Holy fuck, it was only two days."
"I believe it was five days. Milchick says he only had 48 hours to get the three replacements, and then when Mark W. is being walked outside, he says he was only there three days."
"That checks out. I think the overtime contingency happened on a Friday night. Milchick says, 'See you Monday?' to Mark at Mark's sister's. That would have given him roughly 48 hrs to find the three replacements who started Monday and then worked three days before Mark needed his team back on day three. Then Milchick would have needed a day to get the team back. So, a total of five or six days, perhaps before the team's return since the OTC."
"The production team on that claymation video moved fast."
14."THE ELEVATOR DIDN'T DING FOR HELLY."
"I just rewatched it, and you’re right. There’s a a ding when the elevator starts to go down for everyone but not for her!!"
15."Milchick’s license plate says, 'Remedium Hominibus.' In Latin, that means 'a cure for mankind.' Interesting…"
16."How are those fruit baskets staying on Milkshakes bike?"
"And what the fuck is up with the recurring theme of pineapples?? Even Cobel mentioned it."
17."Mark saying 'Persephone' is interesting when you think about the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice relating to this show."
"For anyone who doesn’t know the myth, here’s a summary and it definitely feels very Severance:
In the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, Orpheus, a legendary musician, falls deeply in love with Eurydice. On their wedding day, she is bitten by a snake and dies, descending to the Underworld. Distraught, Orpheus ventures into the Underworld to retrieve her, using the power of his music to charm Hades and Persephone. They agree to let Eurydice return with him, but on one condition: he must not look back at her until they reach the surface. However, just before they emerge, Orpheus, overcome with doubt, turns to look at her, and she is lost to him forever."
18."'I ate your shitty fucking cookies!' Get her, Mark."
19.And finally, "I hope my innie enjoys the next seven days; I'll be back next week."
