Tammy Slaton believes that she would not have gained so much weight over the years if she'd had better mental health support.

On August 29, the 1000-Lb. Sisters star, 38, posted a video on social media opening up about how difficult it can be to “break the cycle” of letting her mental health issues negatively affect her weight loss journey.

“I felt like if there was more help out there for me at the time, I probably wouldn’t have gotten so big,” she explained. “The mental aspect of it does play a lot. Being depressed and having a food addiction, eating my feelings, I was taking it out on the food. There’s so many things that can go wrong. Life is scary.”

Slaton said she recently began working with Pop Recovery Systems, which she calls her “backbone” in leading her through her transformation. She said she’s been able to get moral support from people going through similar journeys as she continues to manage her health.

“I did turn to food for a little bit,” she admitted. “But I realized it and now I’m back on track.”

“On my transformation journey, I’ve faced moments where I’ve turned to food to cope when I’m feeling down. It’s something many of us struggle with, and it can be tough to break that cycle,” she added in the caption. “It’s not just about physical transformation — it’s about healing from the inside out… Let’s keep transforming, together. 💪✨”

Last week, Slaton shared another candid video discussing the “rollercoaster” she went through in order to lose 500 lbs. since her weight loss journey began.

“I think I was trying to be so focused on losing weight that I lost myself. Lost who I was and I turned to alcohol instead of food. At the same time, I was still eating. So I was doing both. Damage in two different ways,” she said. “It would be so easy to fall back into bad habits and gain all the weight back but then what was this all for? Waste of time, waste of money, wasted effort.”

Slaton explained that it’s not just a diet. She’s made a lifestyle change that allowed her to accomplish such a drastic physical transformation.

“I had a lot of inner demons that I had to fight and I’m still fighting,” she said. “You’re not alone. You can do anything once you put your mind to it. Never give up.”

“We’re all in this together, and I believe in lifting each other up, one day at a time,” Slaton added in the caption. “So, join me as we embrace the highs, the lows, and everything in between. Let’s keep moving forward with love and positivity!”
