10-year-old boy shot at New Jersey high school football game dies of injuries
The 10-year-old boy who was shot at a New Jersey high school football game on Friday has died.
Atlantic County prosecutor Damon G. Tyner announced that Micah Tennant, a fifth-grader from Atlantic City, succumbed to injuries from a gunshot wound to his neck on Wednesday.
“On behalf of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, we would like to express our sincere condolences to the Tennant family on the tragic passing of Micah,” Tyner wrote in a statement. “Words at this time seem so insufficient to portray the anger and outrage that our community feels regarding his loss.”
The shooting occurred in the third quarter of a playoff game between Pleasantville and Camden high schools in Pleasantville, New Jersey. A 27-year-old man and 15-year-old boy were also reportedly injured in the shooting.
Suspect charged with murder
Tyner announced that 31-year-old Alvin Wyatt of Atlantic City is now facing a murder charge with the news of Tennant’s death. He’s also charged with two counts of attempted murder, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
Wyatt is one of five people arrested in connection with the shooting, which was reportedly motivated by a grudge.
Michael Mack, 27, Tyrell Dorn, 28 and Shahid Dixon, 27 — of Atlantic City — and Vance Golden, 26, of Pleasantville are charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, Tyner announced.
