From bigger breasts to indulging in more dessert, pregnancy has its perks. Better orgasms - and more sex with your partner are just two benefits of sex during pregnancy.
When you're pregnant, blood flow increases and your blood vessels dilate more quickly and with less stimulation to nourish the foetus. When the highly sensitive cells around the vaginal opening become engorged with blood, they also become extra-responsive to pressure and vibration, says sexologist Dr Trina Read.
And, she says, when you’re pregnant, the uterus tightens more powerfully during orgasm, leaving you more sexually satisfied than ever. One hot mama indeed.
1. SIDE BY SIDE
Best for High-intimacy sex when hormones wreak havoc on your emotions. Why Because it’s similar to hugging.
Tip Lie facing your partner on your left side to avoid pressure on the vessels taking blood back to the heart, which doesn’t hurt the baby but can make you short of breath. Toss your right leg over his hip to give him access. As your midsection gets bigger, he can move his body down a fraction so his penis can get under your belly.
2. EDGE OF THE BED
Best for When the sheer size of your stomach makes you feel like you’re having the wrong kind of threesome. Why Because it’s like sex in a recliner.
Tip Lean back on a pile of regular pillows or a wedge pillow like the Liberator Wedge and bend your knees so your feet rest on the edge of the bed. He kneels or stands in front of you. Try to block out the image of your feet in stirrups.
3. WOMAN ON TOP
Best for Taking pressure off your abdomen. Why Because being upright means you won’t feel pinched or squashed, and “it gives you the ability to shift positions and control depth of penetration,” says Dr Jennifer Berman, co-founder of the Female Sexual Medicine Center at the University of California at Los Angeles.
Tip Have him support your bump with one hand as you grind away, and use his other hand on your clitoris.
4. 4SPOONS
Best for When you’d rather be sleeping. Why Because it makes him do most – OK, all – of the work.
Tip Lie on your left side, facing away from your partner – this will make it easier for you to breathe. Place a pillow or two under your stomach for extra support. Try adjusting your angle by leaning forward or back until his penis hits you in the right spot. And when it does hit that spot, you’ll be glad you’re doing this instead of sleeping.

Will it hurt the baby?“The angle of your vagina means that there’s no way his willy will bump the baby. It’s anatomically impossible.”
But won’t it get squashed?
“[The baby] is very well cushioned in its amniotic sac.”
What about the Big O?“[It] won’t bring on premature labour! You may experience mild contractions, but they won’t be strong enough to trigger labour unless your body is ready to go.”
