Well, think again. Last week I flew to the Gold Coast to attend the Harvey Norman Women in League All Stars dinner and witnessed the stellar women who are playing their own game. Over dinner at SkyPoint Deck on Level 77 of the Gold Coast’s famous Q1 building (yes, it's an impressive view), 200-and-something people including female volunteers from league's South East Queensland area and officials came together to celebrate women in rugby league.
And yes, there were a handful of NRL stars too. BUT the true stars of the evening were the two teams - the Women’s Indigenous All Stars and the Women’s All Stars - who received their jersey's from league legends Mal Meninga and Brad Fittler for their curtain raiser match the following Saturday (PS the Women's All Stars won). We listened to their stories and applauded their success - and I left with a ridiculously warm fuzzy "go girl" feeling. Love that.
