Sally Pearson was named Sports Woman of the Year at the I Support Women In Sports Awards in Sydney last night

The Olympic champion hurdler beat snowboarder Torah Bright, mountain biker Caroline Buchanan, swimmer Cate Campbell, gymnast Lauren Mitchell and swimmer and paralympian Jessica Gallagher to take out top prize.

The Sportswoman of the Year award was handed to Sally Pearson by 2013 winner surfer Sally Fitzgibbons.

Pearson said, "I'm incredibly grateful and honoured to be collecting this award. I want to thank Women's Health and editor Felicity Harley for doing an amazing job for women. Take no shortcuts. Always train like you're number two so you can get to number one."

The Women’s Health ‘I Support Women In Sport’ awards was created as a platform to bring together and champion the successes of our country’s female sporting greats, and the night is all about telling their stories.”
