The balancing poses in yoga require tremendous focus and concentration, and these qualities are continuously refined when practising.
The good news is balancing on one leg is a learnt skill and it requires some key elements: foundation, eye gaze, core activation and breath. Start with something simple, like a modified tree pose.
Start off by standing on your left leg (keep your leg firm, but your knee soft) and, instead of bringing your right foot all the way up to your left knee, start with your right heel against your left ankle.
Keep your hands on your hips and remember to engage your core.
Now, focus your eyes on one spot on the wall ahead of you and breathe slowly. Once you feel stable in that position, try bringing your right foot a little higher up your left leg until, eventually, you’ll be able to reach full tree pose.
