I love making New Year's resolutions. Some, I never expect to keep - cutting out red wine and chocolate, moving to Paris, stop watching bad reality TV - but this year I am determined to keep my New Year beauty resolutions. January is a great time to turn over a new beauty leaf by breaking bad beauty habits and making a few fabulous tweaks to your tired make up routine.

Here are the resolutions that I am definitely sticking to:

1. Wearing eye cream every day
I like a low-maintenance skincare routine and I currently wear eye cream every other day/when I remember/when my puffy bags and dark circles start scaring small children. However, the time has come for me to incorporate an eye cream into my daily regime. This harsh realisation was made clear to me recently when a Beau Visage skin consultation determined my "real" skin age as six years older than the age on my driver's licence! So this year I'm going to practise what I preach and start slathering on eye cream religiously. At the moment I'm using L'Oreal Paris Derma Genesis Eye Cream ($30.95; 1300 659 259) by day, and Prevage Eye Anti-Aging Moisturizing Treatment ($150; 1800 015 500) by night.

2. Get my hair trimmed at least every six weeks
A few recent plucking disasters have made me realise I need to call in the eyebrow experts. I'm heading to the Benefit Brow bar to get my unruly arches whipped into perfect shape.

3. Believing that bold is beautiful
I'm not going to completely ditch my old faithful shimmery beige lip gloss but I do vow to start experimenting with some new colour kids on the block. Flirting with colour make up is a great way to seasonally update your look and if you do have a coral blush mishap, you can simply wash it off. The first bright colour making its way into my make-up bag? A super-flattering hot pink lippy (I will be trying M.A.C Lipstick in Girl About Town, $35; www.maccosmetics.com.au).

What are your new beauty resolutions going to be?
