Jessica Marais and fiance James Stewart

Packed to the Rafters star Jessica Marais shot her final scenes on Monday and has flown to the US.

Marais, 25, who plays Rebecca Gibney's unlucky-in-love daughter Rachel on Seven’s hit show, has followed former co-star Zoe Ventoura to LA on a one-way ticket. The Daily Telegraph reports her on-screen boyfriend and off-screen fiancé James Stewart is staying in Sydney and will continue working on the hit show.

According to the same report, Packed to the Rafters has shot enough footage to keep the Silver Logie winner on the show until June, and her character won’t be written out by dying in case she wants to come back.

"After four seasons, Jess is taking a break from Rafters to explore some other acting opportunities," a Seven spokesman told The Daily Telegraph yesterday. "Creatively, it's great to stretch and grow as an actor.

"She has Seven's full support and will always be a part of the Rafter and Seven family."

Marais is due to star opposite Ben Mendelsohn in the upcoming upcoming psychological thriller Needle.

Before hitting the big-time with Seven's hit show Packed to the Rafters, South-African-born Jessica Marais shot the movie Two Fists, One Heart, a semi-autobiographical story of Perth boxer Rai Fazio (named Anthony Argo in the film and played by Underbelly actor Daniel Amalm).

Packed to the Rafters is Australia's most-watched show and returned to air last week to a national audience of 1.9 million viewers.

Wonderful for her. Go Jessica and I hope you do really well. All the best! Sorry your fellow 'Aussies' are too good at pulling down others that are doing well.

I actually think that she will do well over there. The few times that I watched the show she was in, I was struck by how naturally beautiful she was and how genuine her acting was.

Oh God not another try hard actor going to L.A. Watch her pics, she's aleady lost weight to try and be as ridiculously skinny as the others, before you know it she'll have a face full of botox and instant boobs overnight. This chic Vs Natalie Portman - now thats a joke!
