Kevin Smith, who was kicked off an airplane a year ago Sunday allegedly because he was too fat for one seat, says he's lost 30 kgs since then. but he's still angry about the incident.

"I feel mixed feelings about losing the weight," the Clerks director, 40, told Joy Behar on her HLN show Tuesday, explaining that the incident on the Southwest flight made him a more forceful advocate for the overweight.

"I sympathise far more with heavier people than I ever will with thin," Smith says. "I'll never be thin."

Smith railed against Southwest to his 1.7 million Twitter followers and continues to be baffled by the airline's decision to remove him. He admits the incident got him thinking about slimming down, but not because he no longer wanted to be thought of as fat.

"I felt at that moment, I was like, 'You know what? I'll lose the weight, but I'm not putting on thinner clothes,' " he says. "Because why? I'm still the same person I was when I was 30 kgs. heavier."

Smith, who is still heavy, hasn't lost his sense of humor about his weight, either. "Let's be honest, I've lost 30 kgs., but nobody's going, 'I wanna sleep with you!' " he jokes. "They're just like, 'Keep going, you look better.' "
