Trill farewells The X Factor

Dannii Minogue lost her first girl group, Trill, on last night's episode of The X Factor

Dannii Minogue has suffered The X Factor’s first casualty after her girl group Trill was voted out in show’s first live decider show for 2014.

Speaking to WHO after their elimination, “It was definitely a shock,” reveals Angel Taurina, 14, who with bandmates Jessica Jade, 15, and Sheralyn Hill, 15, were in the bottom two with Natalie Bassingthwaighte’s Adrien Nookadu. “We really didn’t expect to leave this early in the competition, we didn’t want to, it was never what we planned.”

The judges saved 17-year-old pop performer Nookadu, a former Young Talent Time cast member, after both acts sang for a last shot in Seven’s talent competition.

Minogue, who is defending her 2013 win with protégé Dami Im, said last night that Trill “are fantastic and have star quality.”

“Dannii came and hugged us and held onto us for that little bit longer,” says Angel. “She talked about change in the music industry and how we are right on the verge of Australia seeing that urban side of music, we are right on the brink and for us to keep going. She really believes in us.”

The high-school students from NSW and Victoria draw influences from TLC, Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé and Rihanna and had consistently impressed the judges with their sassy personalities and fiercestage presence. They were one of the youngest acts in the show and the youngest act in Minogue’s groups category.

While their X Factor dream is over, Trill are hungrier than ever to capitalise on their newfound profile and fill what they see as a gap in the local market for an urban girl group. “We will definitely continue as a group for as long as we can,” says Angel, who tips Redfoo’s pop diva Reigan Derry to win. “We have been writing and recording. We would like to release a song.”

“We are so young, we’ve got so much ahead of us,” adds Angel. “Australia has never had an urban-swag type group. You kind of see those in America and the UK and we want to bring that to Australia.”

The X Factor continues Mondays at 7.30pm and Sundays at 6.30pm on Channel 7.
