Human Nature singer Toby Allen has welcomed twins by a surrogate with partner of 8 years, actor Darren Weller, WHO can reveal.

Harvey and Roxanne were born in a California hospital on March 27 after a lengthy medical and legal process, but Allen tells WHO it was worth the wait.

"It could not have been any more perfect," gushes the new dad on the moment his met his twins. "It was indescribable."

Adds Weller: "I always knew I would be a father and being gay never seemed like an obstacle. We want to bring up healthy, well-rounded children who can put up with any situation."

The first stage was finding a willing surrogate - mother-of-two Melissa who runs a community farm in California. "My first impression was how lucky a child would be to be born to them, because they are so loving and caring," says Melissa. "I felt they could offer everything a child could need."

After a few failed attempts, the twins were finally conceived using an egg from Weller's sister's, Sarah, and Allen's sperm. Says Sarah: "I feel honoured to be able to give such a special gift to my brother."

For Allen, whose Motown-inspired quartet has sold nearly 2.5 million albums since forming in 1989, he expects to be a "stay-at-home dad, except for about four hours when I'm at work." His Human Nature bandmates "are over the moon for us. They all know how long we've been wanting to do this."
