Biography:
After first working as a backup dancer for sister Jessica, the preacher's daughter begins to find her own feet with small appearances on Malcolm in the Middle, Saved by the Bell and The Hot Chick.

Her big break comes in 2002, when she is cast as Simon Camden's girlfriend Cecilia on the drama 7th Heaven.

Her own 2004 MTV series, The Ashlee Simpson Show, follows the making of her debut album, Autobiography, which hits No. 1 along with her debut single, "Pieces of Me."

In October that year she is lambasted for lip-syncing on Saturday Night Live. Blaming acid reflux that caused her to lose her voice and use a backing tape, "It's so embarrassing," she later says, "because it sucks. The total situation was a bummer. I made a complete fool of myself."

A stint on the London stage follows in 2006 when she plays Roxie Hart in Chicago in a five-week run.

Hooking up with Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz that same year ("There was just like an awesome connection we had," she said), they marry in May 2008 and announce she is expecting; son Bronx Mowgli is born in November.

Simpson-Wentz plays Violet Foster in the revamped Melrose Place, which debuts in 2009 to lower-than-expected ratings.
