So You Think You Can Dance, Australia: Renee and Heath Miss Out On a Top Ten Spot

How do you feel having missed out on the top ten?
Heath: It's bizarre - Renee and me are both fine. We're happy; we're having a laugh. I won't lie, I was disappointed, because you never know who is going to go and it was a slight shock. It's a little frustrating getting so far and not reaching the top ten, which was my goal. But it's been such a great experience and I was there for long enough to experience the majority of it, so I was happy for that.
Renee: We're chirpy! I feel good, surprisingly. Though it was a shock to the system - I honestly didn't know who was going home.

Is there anything you wish you’d done differently?
Heath: Not at all. You can't do that because what's done is done and I did as best as I could for that moment. I was happy with my solo last night and the way I finished on a good note.
Renee: No way - there's nothing I could've changed. The competition is what it is, you get the routines you get and you can only do the best you can with them.

Did you consider there was a possibility you could be going home?
Heath: I think you're stupid if you don't prepare yourself for the worst. If you don't, you're an absolute mess and your world falls apart. In this dance world of ours, it's all about rejection so you've got to be tough. It comes with the job. There's no-one that hasn't been rejected, but that makes us stronger and helps us to go on to bigger and better things.

What was the highlight of the competition?
Renee: They confused me a bit by saying I was a jazz and contemporary dancer. I like to say I'm a contemporary dancer because you can do whatever you want, really. So doing the contemporary piece I got to do with Phillipe was my highlight. For us to open up to each other and share that moment together was definitely the highlight for me.
Heath: I really enjoyed having two uplifting and happy routines last week. It was good to go out on such a positive note. It was so diff from all the angsty contemporaries I got. We loved doing our solos, too. We both left being us, not trying to be something else.

What genre did you hate?
Renee: Ballroom - I got it three times and I never got jazz once. I was so upset. That said, my rumba was my favourite routine. I just don't like waltzing!
Heath: Hip-hop, and the fact I didn't get to do a proper jazz routine. When I did get jazz, it was still lyrical jazz.

What was the worst part of this experience?
Heath: Standing there for the verdict.

What don't we know about you?
Heath: I don't have my driver's licence. I'm on my L-plates. Today's my 23rd birthday so I'm going out tonight. I think I'm going out with a group of my friends to a club to just get drunk and have a good time!
Renee: I've got my licence but I don't have a car.
Heath: She's single like me!

What's next for you?
Renee: We want to do bigger and better things!
Heath: I'm thinking about possibly venturing into TV. I haven't studied in acting that much but I certainly enjoyed the TV side of things and would like to do something like that for a change. I'd like to do TV presenting, too.
Renee: I loved choreographing, so I'd like to pursue that.

What is your ultimate goal?
Renee: To dance for Lady Gaga. Could you imagine!
Heath: Me too. And for Celine Dion's show.

What would you be doing if you weren't a dancer?
Heath: I'd be an actor or a singer. I'd be the male Gaga.
Renee: If we're being honest, I'd still be in Tasmania working a normal job.

Who do you want to win?
Heath: Who is going to win and who should win are two different things. I think someone like Robbie should win, but it never turns out to be someone you actually think; it's someone who keeps getting through, but not someone you actually would love to win.
Renee: I want Robbie to win too, or Carly, because she's my best friend. Phillipe also deserves to win.

OK, so who do you think will win?
Renee: Kieran or Robbie. I think it's going to be a boy this year.
Heath: I think Kieran. But everyone deserves to be there at this stage and I'm not just saying that. Although certain people work harder than others.
Renee: We were hard workers, so I don't know what happened there! [Laughs]
