Despite being voted off the show after two weeks in the bottom three, the AFL player has certainly found his voice, and having quit his labouring job, plans to continue a career in the spotlight. WHO caught up with the single heart throb to discuss his music and acting plans, his man crush, and that ear jewellery.

How was your night?

It was good. I got some Maccas with Stan and came home and got a couple of hours sleep.

Did you have family in the audience?

Yes, my stepsister Stephanie was there. She's 24. She didn't make a sign but it was good to have her support.

Were you expecting the verdict?

A little bit. I don't know, I just figured we all have to go sometime and everyone in the show is a really good singer and I was in the bottom two last week.

You missed out on performing your Big Band song.

I got to practice my song with the big band during the day, which was fun. I was going to do New York, New York. But dressing up in the white tux for the group performance was good!

What was your Idol highlight?

Experiencing all the performances and meeting all the really cool people in the industry. The highlight was probably meeting Harry Connick Jr. I got to talk to him one on one for a bit. He just reckons it's crazy that I haven't sung before the show.

You've quit your labouring job. What's your plan now?

I'm going back home to Melbourne and I plan to start writing my own music and hopefully someone will approach me from somewhere. I've written a few lyrics down and my style is R 'n' B and Hip Hop. And I might try out for Neighbours to try and stay in the public eye and see how I can go.

Have you got any acting experience?

Just drama at school, but I've got the experience in front of the cameras now. I get a little nervous but I'm used to it.

How will you pay the bills?

Hopefully I'll get a few gigs, like play pubs and do weddings.

You've said before you'd be happy to be a wedding singer. Do you think your aspirations are higher now?

They are, but I'd still be happy to do weddings. My ultimate dream is to sing as a career in general. I'd love to have the same success as Justin Timberlake, but I think that's a long way down the track.

What was the toughest part of Idol?

I think this week, learning the big band stuff. I'd never really listened to that kind of music before, so it was hard to get my head around it. It clicked when we started to sing with the big band. It's nice to change it up a bit.

Which judge did you agree with most?

I like what Dicko says a lot - he has good things to say. He says some dumb stuff too, but we all do! The judges all give good advice, backstage as well. They're nicer than I expected, just really interested in what we do. Jay Dee is doing all right. He still looks nervous before he talks but I think he's getting used to it.

Have you made good contacts out of the show?

Yeah, Jay Dee and stuff - I've got my foot in the door now. After the show hopefully something might happen through him, but you never know.

Who do you think will be voted out next?

That's a hard one. Based on the public vote its usually the person who has been in the bottom two, so maybe James, but he sung so well that it's hard to say.

Who's your favourite singer in the competition?

Stan. He's just got an amazing voice. I could listen to him sing for ages. He could sing the Yellow Pages and I'd listen to him!

How's everyone getting along?

Really well. There's not much bitchiness. Everyone respects each other's privacy and is supportive of one another.

Have you got a girlfriend?

No, I'm single and I have been throughout the competition.

What's the craziest thing a fan has done?

Declare their love for me on Facebook!

What do you look for in a girl?

Brains.

Blondes or brunettes?

I like both. Maybe blondes.

Who's your celebrity crush?

Beyonce. We didn't get to meet her but we went to her concert. I got to meet Jessica Mauboy who was supporting her, and I have a crush on her too. My man crush would be Chris Brown, of course!

So are your earrings real diamonds?

No they're not. They're $19.95 from your local chemist. I might have to trademark some. Everyone keeps talking about them. I forgot I wear them, I just never take them out.

Did you have fun with the Idol wardrobe?

Picking clothes through the week is awesome. We have a wicked stylist called Sheridan who we tell what we like and he pulls it together. My style is kind of Chris Brown/Usher. Very R 'n' B. Actually, I'd say like Justin Timberlake.

Who do you want to win?

Stan.
