How are you feeling?
I'm feeling good! I couldn't have asked for a better way to leave, honestly.
Were you expecting it?I was expecting that verdict. Sunday night I just had the feeling I was going to be leaving. I was happy with my last performance, and I have no time to regret what I've done and I don't feel like I did badly. I think it was my time, and I'm really glad I got to top five and I was the last girl.
How do you feel about an all-boy bottom four? It's fantastic. The boys are so strong. I have so much respect for them.
Is it true you were finding it hard to cope during the competition?I wouldn't say it was hard, I'd say it was a little overwhelming; having producers in your face and stuff. It all comes in time. I got used to it towards the end, it was all good.
There were reports you were given permission to travel home to Brisbane because you were feeling lonely. Is this true?I did travel home, but only because I could. There was no me needing a mental fix. I know it did come across that way but it wasn't that way at all. It was simply because I could, I had the money, and I paid for my airfare to go home and see my family for a night.
Did you ever feel left out?I let myself feel left out, I think. I was just getting down on myself. It's just normal; it was the middle of the competition.
Why were you getting down on yourself?I don't know, just being away from home, I was missing my family a little bit. It was affecting my headspace a little bit, but not to the point I couldn't stand it anymore.
What happened with your schooling this year? Where do you go?I went to Redcliffe High, but actually stopped school before Idol, for different reasons. I was finding it hard to cope with school and having a lot if things on. I am hoping to repeat year 12 next year, but it's still unknown.
Will you go back to complete your QCS (Queensland's HSC equivalent)?I don't think I'll be sitting that. But I will definitely be doing something so I have something to fall back on.
What are your plans now? After the grand finals I'm just going to go home and sleep for a month! And then hopefully start to approach a few people and get myself known while it's fresh.
What's your career goal?I want to be a performing recording artist. I love being really busy; I just thrive on it. I want to get back to work.
Do you want to release an album?I'd really love to. I want to write a few songs and get one together before I think about recording one. I have written my own music, and I have a lot of stuff to write about now from Idol.
What have you discovered about yourself from this experience?I went in this competition as a schoolgirl and now I have to try and get to know myself again. It's been a great experience. I feel like I've come out as a woman, some really weird Aretha Franklin woman.
Do you feel it's made you grow up too fast? No, I'm loving every second! I was already a grown up anyway because I'm an only child. I feel like I'm wiser, and I got to see a little more of the world.
Did you feel image-related pressure during Australian Idol?I just think, before I auditioned for this show I really focused on gaining that love for myself, because if you don't have it there's no hope for you. I'm saying this to everyone; you've just got to believe you are beautiful, no matter how crap you feel. I do have my crap days sometimes but I've just got to believe that I got put here for a reason. I'm singing and I'm loving it, and I feel beautiful at this point.
Where does this attitude stem from?I don't know man, I think I just found a new me! And I'm getting really emotional now. All my stresses are gone, and I'm just going to focus on me [starts crying]. I found that love for myself, and I'm really happy.
What were you stressed about before Idol?Oh, before Idol I was really busy anyway with music. That was my life. I was in a couple of choirs, and in school music stuff, I had lessons and all these commitments around me, and on top of that I worked at a take away place. It was quite a busy life and I was always stressed about getting assignments in on time, but now it's like I don't feel like I have to stress about anything. I feel I'm enough at this point.
Are you single?I am single at the moment.
Is that a good thing?Yes and no. Yes, because it means I don't have to worry about some dude, and no, because I really want to worry about a dude!
Have you noticed more attention from the boys since Idol?Definitely. And it's so good. I'm loving it!
Who would you like to see win?Wes. Because he's been so consistent and I think he deserves it.
