Megan Gale Launches Her Swimwear Range

Unfortunately for us her clothes stayed on, but supermodel Megan Gale presented an impressive body of work with the launch of her swimwear range, Isola, in Sydney on Tuesday, June 29.

A private Vaucluse residence set against views of the sparkling moonlit harbour, was the perfect backdrop for WHO magazine to host Gale's foray into fashion design, having joined forces with Seafolly CEO Anthony Halas to create Isola - meaning Island in Italian - a size 8-16 range of separates designed to cater for women of varying shapes and sizes, including larger breasts.

Despite Sydney's cold snap, tanned models heated up the runway in Gale's summery collection featuring bandeau and triangle bikinis in varying cuts and coverage - all in vibrant colours from fuchsia to teal to slate and cobalt blue, with mosaic and watercolour floral prints providing punch. One-pieces came in halter and strapless versions, some with cut-out detailing on the sides - and all with extra support or enhancement in the bust - each piece designed to flatter a woman's figure, including a black strapless one-piece with a sweetheart neckline, reminiscent of old Hollywood. Gale also presented chic printed kaftans, as well as halter-neck maxi dresses – all which could be pictured on the beach at Bondi or at a lounge bar by the French Riviera.

“I’ve been so busy, I’ve had no time to make a speech,” said a glowing Gale, 34, who was cheered by Sydney’s fashion and social elite, including her radio host beau Andy Lee, MTV’s Ruby Rose, actress Sibylla Budd, Thirsty Merc's Rai Thistlethwayte, stylist Pip Edwards, photographer Jez Smith and designer Kirrily Johnston – as well as proud pal Fifi Box, who “had tears in my eyes because I know how much work she’s put into it.”

Said designer Alex Perry of Isola, “I thought it had Megan written all over it. It was her in the colour, her in the prints. Megan loves a good halter neck – she always has.” Perry believes Gale’s fashion background and an innate understanding of what women want will translate into commercial success. “It’s the fact that she understands 'real-women’s bodies. She’s got one – that’s why I’ve always loved her on my runway,” he says. “She’s the ultimate glam girl and she’s translated that into her swimwear.”
