Kelly Osbourne has finally conquered her weight-loss demons, trading drastic dieting methods for a more sensible approach. "When you do something the right way, it's such a different feeling from shoving your face full of diet pills," says the 24-year-old, who looks a knockout at 20kg lighter.
A stint on the new US season of Dancing with the Stars kicked off her weight loss, and inspired her to get healthy the right way. Osbourne is now on a regime that favours five small meals a day (fruit smoothies and salads are a core component) and exercise, which she laughingly calls "a new thing for me." In addition to four-hour-a-day rehearsals, she does Pilates twice a week.
It's a long way from Osbourne's old way of life. Only 16 when her family's MTV show The Osbournes became an instant hit, Osbourne found herself the subject of vicious blog postings describing her as "fat and ugly." The taunts prompted her to seek comfort in prescription painkillers and food. "I would take a bunch of pills and order whatever I liked," she says.
These days, Osbourne is enjoying being fit, and has even sampled kayaking with her fiancé, Luke Worrall, 19. "I wake up happy every single day," she says.
It's a feeling Alanis Morissette, 35, can relate to. The singer is riding high after conquering the weight gain, which made her the butt of pregnancy rumours last year. Thanks to following a mostly vegan diet and running at least 30 km a week as training for a marathon, the Canadian has lost 10kg and has never looked , or felt, better. Over the past year, "I was learning about health—versus learning about how to be skinny," she says.
