Talk about a dressing down.
Levi Johnston went on the US program The Early Show on Wednesday, Oct. 28, to needle his favourite target, his baby mama's mama Sarah Palin, by claiming she referred to her infant son Trig, who has Down syndrome, as "retarded."
Without providing any details, Johnston, 19, also darkly suggested that Palin, the former Republican candidate for US vice-president, has done a whole lot worse, saying he knows things that could get her "in trouble and could hurt her."
"I'm not gonna go that far," Johnston said in the first segment of a two-part interview. "You know, I mean, if I really wanted to hurt her, I could very easily. But there's - I'm not gonna do it."
This prompted a snarling reply from the former Alaska governor. "We have purposefully ignored the mean spirited, malicious and untrue attacks on our family," Palin says in a statement. "We, like many, are appalled at the inflammatory statements being made or implied. Trig is our 'blessed little angel' who knows it and is lovingly called that every day of his life."
Taking Johnston and the network that aired the program to task, Palin questions the credibility of somebody about to bare all for Playgirl.
"Consider the source of the most recent attention-getting lies," she says. "Those who would sell their body for money reflect a desperate need for attention and are likely to say and do anything for even more attention."
