Beverly Johnson, Vogue's first African-American cover girl, is the latest woman to come forward with allegations of attempted sexual assault against Bill Cosby.

In a detailed essay titled "Bill Cosby Drugged Me. This Is My Story", Johnson, 62, accuses the comedian of drugging her at his New York City brownstone in the mid-1980s.

According to Johnson, Cosby invited her to visit his home after she was tapped to audition for a small part on The Cosby Show, saying they could practice their lines there.

During this so-called rehearsal, Cosby allegedly offered Johnson a cup of espresso. Despite declining the drink several times, Cosby insisted and she finally accepted. "It's nuts, I know, but it felt oddly inappropriate arguing with Bill Cosby so I took a few sips of the coffee just to appease him," she explains in the essay.

A few moments later, Johnson says she knew she had been drugged: I knew by the second sip of the drink Cosby had given me that I’d been drugged—and drugged good," Johnson writes.

"My head became woozy, my speech became slurred, and the room began to spin nonstop."

"Cosby motioned for me to come over to him as though we were really about to act out the scene. He put his hands around my waist, and I managed to put my hand on his shoulder in order to steady myself."

"As I felt my body go completely limp, my brain switched into automatic-survival mode. That meant making sure Cosby understood that I knew exactly what was happening at that very moment."

"Johnson says she managed to say, "You are a motherf----er aren't you?"

She continued hurling insults at Cosby until she says he became visibly infuriated. According to Johnson, the comedian then dragged her downstairs and sent her home in a cab. She left without being sexually assaulted.

Johnson writes that she always wanted to confront Cosby, but eventually lost her nerve after calling his home and having his wife, Camille, answer. "At a certain moment it became clear that I would be fighting a losing battle with a powerful man so callous he not only drugged me, but he also gave me the number to the bedroom he shared with his wife," she says.

Johnson also says she never went public with the story for fear of destroying the image of a seemingly positive male role model in the African-American community. "Black men have enough enemies out there already, they certainly don't need someone like me, an African-American with a familiar face and a famous name, fanning the flames."

Now, encouraged by the other women coming forward, Johnson is ready to speak out. "Over the years I've met other women who also claim to have been violated by Cosby," she writes. "Many are still afraid to speak up. I couldn't sit back and watch the other women be vilified and shamed for something I knew was true."

While representatives for Cosby could not immediately be reached for comment on Johnson's claims, the actor's lawyer, Martin Singer, has continued to deny the allegations.

"The new, never-before-heard claims from women who have come forward in the past two weeks with unsubstantiated, fantastical stories about things they say occurred 30, 40 or even 50 years ago have escalated past the point of absurdity," Singer said in a statement on November 21.
