Jennifer Aniston Talks Gaining Weight for 'Cake'

For Jennifer Aniston, taking on a new role in the film Cake also meant taking on a few extra kilos. The former Friends star had to completely transform herself for the movie, in which she plays Claire Simmons, a woman who suffers from chronic pain after a car accident.

To get into character, the 45-year-old actress had to say 'goodbye' to her healthy diet and regular workout routine. She told fans during a Q & A for the movie on Wednesday about the lifestyle sacrifices she made to prepare for the role.

"I knew that was coming," said the Horrible Bosses star.

"I basically just didn't work out for two-and-a-half months. I stopped working out and I stopped being as careful about my diet as I normally am. I was still healthy, but I'd allow more."

Another part of the transformation? No make-up.

Instead, make-up was used to create the character's facial scars and dark under-eye circles.

"There was a big concern with the scars...We did a lot of experimenting and we had an extraordinary makeup artist make these scars for us," she explained.

"We did some trials, some scar test days. Oh, if you could have seen some of the pictures, it looked like Chainsaw Massacre kind of stuff, you know? Like Freddy Kruger."
