Former Melrose Place actress Amy Locane-Bovenizer was sentenced to three years in prison for killing New Jersey woman Helene Seeman in a 2010 drunk driving accident. The verdict was delivered Thursday, Feb. 14. "What a travesty!" the victim's husband, Fred Seeman, reportedly shouted at the judge.

The 41-year-old actress faced a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, but her punishment was reduced by seven years. The judge cited potential hardships placed on her children, one of whom has a medical and mental disability. Locane-Bovenizer apologised to Seeman's family in court.

At the time of her arrest, Locane-Bovenizer's blood-alcohol level was nearly three times the US legal limit. The actress, also known for her role in School Ties, was convicted of vehicular homicide in November 2012.

"This is a sad day for the Seeman Family. There were no winners declared by the verdict. There are only losers," assistant prosecutor Matthew Murphy said at the time.

"A husband lost his dear wife; his two children lost their mother; and Helene's mother lost her daughter. That loss can never be rectified by a verdict."
