The real food revolution

Something is happening around Australia. Everywhere you turn, people are talking about food. From kale and quinoa to freekeh and activated almonds (thanks to Pete Evans), food is having its moment in the health spotlight. And, to be honest, I couldn’t be happier about it. Ask anyone who knows me and they’ll happily confirm that food and eating is one of my greatest passions in life.

Breakfast is hands-down my favourite meal of the day. (And yes, before you ask, I could live on avocado, smoked salmon, feta and a good loaf of crusty sourdough bread.) I’ve been known to spend hours browsing the aisles of delis and farmers’ markets in search of everything from double brie to perfectly ripe figs. And while I’ve deliberately avoided counting them, my husband’s recently had to install a new bookshelf to accommodate my ever-expanding collection of cookbooks.

But recently the conversation around food has changed. Thanks to farmers, foodies, nutritionists and the growing ranks of high-profile chefs, more and more of us are realising something truly life-changing: that putting the right foods on our plate is one of the best things we can do for our health.

As New York Times columnist and bestselling author Mark Bittman reveals on page 72, when you eat well, you feel well. Which is exactly why we’ve packed this issue full to the brim with the kind of food, nutrition and healthy-eating inspiration that’s guaranteed to make you feel happier, healthier and more energetic, fast.

So what’s on the menu? Glad you asked. Discover the seven deliciously easy new food rules that will simplify your diet and transform the way you eat (page 70). Meet four women who turned their passion for food into successful careers—including the founder of OzHarvest, Ronni Kahn, and the sisters who transformed one tiny shop in Rozelle, Sydney, into a chain of wholefood stores (page 96).

Then create your ideal healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner with superfood-packed recipes direct from celebrity chefs (page 124). Trust me, I’ve cooked them all and they’re beyond delicious.

And as if that’s not enough, we also jumped on a plane and flew to Brisbane to shoot one of Australia’s most successful and inspiring women, Lorna Jane Clarkson. Twenty-five years ago, her quest to find the perfect workout gear led to the launch of a brand that’s grown larger than she ever dreamed. And now, as you’ll read from page 82, she’s on a new healthy eating mission she hopes will nourish our bodies and change the way we think about food. See the cover shoot below!

In the meantime, be sure to get in touch via email or Twitter and tell me what you think of the issue. I’d absolutely love to hear from you.

Happy cooking!
